Dear Visa Officer,

REF: Request for an F-2 Visa for my wife, Mrs. xxx

I am currently a graduate student pursuing my Ph.D. studies at the University of xxx and am writing to you concerning my wife, Mrs. xxx’s F-2 visa application. She has attempted to obtain an F-2 visa twice from your office in the month of April 2002. Even though my wife had submitted all the required legal documents including the I-20 and marriage certificate with her visa application, on both occasions her visa application was denied.

The visa officer who interviewed my wife probably doubted whether our marriage is legal since we come from different cities in China.

I fully understand and respect your decision to prevent illegal immigration of people into the USA. I beg you to please understand and recognize that our marriage is legal and our love for each other is genuine. I sincerely wish for my wife to be able to accompany me as my dependent for the duration of my studies in the United States. Moreover, I am not trying to bring my wife here through any illegal means.

I first met my wife, xxx when she visited a common friend of ours at xxx in December 1999. During her stay of 3 weeks we came to know each other very well and started to like each other. After her return to xxx, over love blossomed as we continued to communicate with each other and also meet each other till August 2000, when I came to the University of xxx to pursue my Ph.D. degree.

Yu and I continued to correspond and call each other while I was in the US. Both of us realized that we miss each other tremendously and hence when I visited China in xxx 2001 I got engaged to her. After being engaged for about six months, I returned to China on xxx 2001, and we got married on xxx 2001 in xxx.

My wife did not apply for a F-2 visa right away since I was unable to obtain all the necessary documents for her F-2 visa application. Upon my return to the United States, the University of xxx issued an I-20 for my wife so that she could join me in xxx. Unfortunately, she has now attempted to obtain a visa twice and both the times her visa application has been denied.

Our separation is causing tremendous mental torment to both my wife and I. My studies and research are also beginning to suffer as a result of our separation. After being turned down twice for a visa, we have been very tense about our reunification. We feel frustrated and anxious, and do not know how long it will be before we can be together. We both try to comfort each other from thousands of miles away by calling each other daily.

I sincerely wish for my wife to be able to accompany me as my dependent for the duration of my studies in the United States. After finishing my Ph.D. degree in approximately three years, we will return to China. With my previous four-years of work experience in xxx and my Ph.D. degree from the USA, I am confident of finding a job with a multi-national xxx company in China.

Therefore, I beseech you to please reconsider my wife’s petition for an F-2 visa so that she can accompany me during my stay in USA. Please do not hesitate to contact me at the above address if you need any further information regarding my wife or myself.

Your assistance in reuniting my wife and I for the remaining period of my studies and research would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
